you know. it's necessary to be rational in life. make rational, and not emotional decisions. but not so when it comes to music.
music is irrational, and when it comes to a singing competition, there are always favourites and people even the judges root for when they perform on stage.

i was fortunate enough to be sitting at the judges' panel today, and really cherished every moment watching to the contestants perform on stage - that has been the playground for many of us, and we can understand the nerves that pop out at the most inappropriate of times. for those who overcame the stage fright through the endless practices off-stage, the audience get to indulge in their voices and the emotions that came through the songs. it was fairly easy to differentiate the ones who prepared and rose to the occassion and the ones who semi-wilted on stage...

and i realised that judging is essentially another form of entertainment, just that it's off-stage. i tried my best to come up with suitable vocabulary to describe a certain voice, emotion throughout the performance, although sometimes miscommunication happens between the cranium and the mouth, for which i am very apologetic and hope the receiver of my evil tongue not take too much of what i said to heart, and keep on working hard on improving. :) for the rest of the show i believed everything was pretty much in the right amount of control (minus the pa system which really screwed up big time), and i am grateful for this opportunity. :_ )
